Lighting can completely change the way a room feels. The right fixture adds warmth, character, and just enough personality to make a space feel finished. I’m always drawn to lighting that feels classic but interesting – the kind you notice without it taking over the whole room.

Chandeliers

The fixture that can set the tone for an entire room. I love chandeliers with beautiful proportions, classic details, and just enough personality to make things interesting. I also try and look for chandeliers that you don’t see in every home – or all over social media. I want something a little unexpected, but never so unusual that I’ll be tired of it in a year.

Pendants

Pendants are one of my favorite ways to add personality without overwhelming a room. I tend to look for interesting shapes, beautiful materials, and pieces that feel special with being trendy. Kitchen pendants in particular can be a little controversial – some people love them and some people find them unnecessary. I say if you find pendants that add something to your kitchen and you love them, use them. If not, skip them and let the other lighting do the work. Sometimes less really is more.

Table Lamps

Table lamps are an easy way to bring warmth and personality into a room, but I also like them to help create a sense of cohesiveness. A lamp can absolutely be interesting, but I am careful not to let every lamp complete for attention . Too many statement pieces can quickly take a room from feeling collected to overly eclectic. For me, it’s about finding balance – enough personality to keep thinks interesting, while still making the room feel pulled together.

Flush Mount & Semi Mount

Flush and semi-flush mounts may be practical, but the definitely don’t have to be boring. I’d look for fixtures to with beautiful details and interesting shapes that intentional rather than something chosen simply because the ceiling needed a light. Even in a hallway or small space, the right fixture can make a surprisingly big difference.

Accent Lighting

Sometimes it’s the smaller layers of light that really make a room feel finished. Floor lamps, sconces, picture lights, task lights and little cordless lights can add warmth exactly where you need it – and often solve an awkward spot along the way. I think of these as the finishing touches: useful, beautiful, and another opportunity to add a little personality without over doing it.

Light It Up

The best lighting usually comes from a mx rather than one perfect fixture. A chandelier or a pendant may get most of the attention, but it’s the lamps, sconces, and smaller layers of light that make a room feel warm and inviting. Choose pieces you love, mix them thoughtfully, and don’t worry about everything matching perfectly. The goal is for it to feel like it belongs together – even if it wasn’t bought together.
