The living room is where life happens, so it should be as comfortable as it beautiful. I’ve gathered some of my favorite finds for creating a space that feels collected, inviting, and pulled together – without looking like you tried too hard.
Start with the Big Pieces
Sofas, chairs, and tables do most of the heavy lifting in a living room. Get those right, and everything else gets a whole lot easier. I’m drawn to pieces that are classic enough to live with for years, but never so serious that you’re afraid to put your feet up.

The Sofa
Ikea Uppland Sofa
The Ikea Uppland Sofa is surprisingly comfortable. More comfortable than my more expensive sofas. It is nicely slipcovered making cleaning a breeze. And if you need to replace the slipcovers or just want to change up the color, they are very inexpensive.

Layer in the Good Stuff
This is where a room starts to feel like yours. A great rug, the right lamp, pillows you actually love, and a few things collected along the way. Nothing needs to match perfectly – in fact, it’s usually better when it doesn’t.

A Little Something Extra
Every room needs a few things that are there simply because you love them. A beautiful bowl, a stack of decorative books, something a little quirky, or a vintage find that you couldn’t leave behind. They’re usually the things that give a room its personality – and make it feel collected rather than decorated.

The Final Layer
The best rooms are never really finished. They evolve over time as you find things you love, move pieces around, and add a little something here and there. Start with the pieces that matter most, then give the rest of the room time to come together.
